Requirements for a marriage license issued by Phelps County

What you will need to be issued a marriage license in our office:

Both applicants must be at least 17 years of age.  In the State of Nebraska you can not marry if you are under 17.

  1. Both applicants must supply a valid form of photo identification (Example: Drivers License or passport.)
  2. If either applicant is not of legal age (19), a consent  form must be signed by a parent or guardian and notarized.
  3. Both applicants must appear together at the County Clerk’s office between the hours of  9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
  4. The fee for a marriage license is $50.00.
  5. Marriage license is valid for one year from date of issuance, and there is not a waiting period.
  6. Plan on a half hour to type the marriage license.
  7. Applicants must supply social security number, if a number has been issued to the applicant.
  8. Need to know birthplace of bride and groom, but a birth certificate is not required.
  9. If an applicant has been divorced, we need to know the date of divorce decree. A copy of the divorce decree is not required. 
  10. Applicants must supply the full names and birthplaces of both parents (including mother’s maiden name).
  11. No blood test is required.

 

To receive a Phelps County certified marriage license, send a $16.00 check or money order and the following information (The license must have been issued in Phelps County for us to send a copy):

  1. Name of groom
  2. Name of bride (including maiden name)
  3. Month/day/year of marriage
