The Veteran's Service Office is a county agency that assists veterans with Federal, State, and County Benefits once he/she has been discharged from active-duty military service. The function of the office is to complete the application process for veterans and their dependents in obtaining the benefits that they might be entitled to receive. The office is under the direction of the Veteran's Service Officer who is appointed by the County Veteran's Service Committee.
By Nebraska state statute, the appointment of the Service Officer is confirmed by the County Board of Supervisors or Board of Commissioners. Responsibilities of the Service Officer include advising and counseling veterans and their families in matters relating to benefits that he/she may be entitled to, being knowledgeable about applicable current laws and codes, and interpreting current laws and codes pertaining to veteran's benefits as necessary. Other office personnel include the Administrative Assistant and Veteran's Aids who provide support to the office by administering clerical duties and advisement to eligible applicants.
