Southwest Regional PET Exercise held in McCook

On April 18, 2008 the Southwest Nebraska Planning Exercise and Training region held an exercise in McCook. The exercise was facilitated by ICF of Fairfax, VA and assisted by the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. Participants included personnel from local Emergency Management, Fire/EMS, Law Enforcement, Elected Officials, Dispatchers, Utilities, National Weather Service, American Red Cross, Ethanol Plant, Schools, Public Health, Hospitals, and Medical Response Systems.

The objective of the exercise derived from a response after a tornado had struck the Village of Trenton, Nebraska and the Trenton Ag Products Ethanol Plant. Groups were formed by their job descriptions as they walked through the scenario and looked for resources that may be needed in such an event.

Many lessons were learned and the Exercise Design Team (EDT) hope to take this scenario and perform the exercise again as a functional exercise.
